The problem
Our monthly bill rose by a quarter with no change in output, no new machines and the same shift pattern. The utility insists the meter is fine and our maintenance team cannot find anything obviously broken.
What we told them
A jump that lands overnight and then holds steady is almost never a gradual efficiency loss — it is something that switched on and stayed on. Log consumption at fifteen-minute intervals for one week and overlay it on the shift calendar. In this case the baseline load at 3am had tripled: a compressor was cycling continuously because a leak downstream kept pressure below the cut-out threshold. The compressor was doing exactly what it was told to do; the leak was the fault. Fix the leak before replacing any equipment.
